The Senior Health Economist and Infectious Disease Modeller post is based within the Blood Safety, Hepatitis, Sexually Transmitted Infections & HIV Division (BSHSH) at UKHSA. The postholder will work closely with the Statistics, Modelling and Economics Department. They will lead on economic and cost-effectiveness analyses for a range of prevention and control programmes for Hepatitis, HIV and Sexually Transmitted Infections. They will contribute to the development of infectious disease models. Experience in transmission dynamic modelling of infectious diseases is desirable and not essential.
The post-holder will be expected to coordinate applied research in a multidisciplinary environment, and will be encouraged to obtain an honorary academic appointment at a suitable research-intensive university.
UKHSA is a world leader in the use of infectious disease modelling and economic evaluation to inform public health decision making about implementation and effectiveness of infectious disease prevention initiatives. The work done by the post holder is determined by and feeds into policy decisions, and will help shape future policy-making and scientific advances in this field. Hence it carries considerable potential for original work and requires a high degree of personal motivation.
